After wrapping up his first and only official visit, B.J. Goodson gave the weekend high marks.
Tigers land No. 19
The Clemson coaching staff has landed the verbal commitment of B.J. Goodson, a middle linebacker prospect out of Lamar High School.
"I got close with coach [Kevin] Steele. I fell in love with the organization, the whole atmosphere and everything. Just the way the coaches teach the game. They teach it with passion. The preach playing with passion," Goodson said. "I wanted to be a part of that."
Goodson was on campus Saturday with his mom, dad and younger sister for Clemson's game against No. 16 Miami. Like several fans, Goodson and his family were stuck in traffic. The family didn't arrive to Memorial Stadium until an hour before kickoff.
It was just the second time he'd visited Clemson. Last season, Goodson was in for the Wake Forest game.
"I just felt like I was ready," he said of Sunday's commitment. "I went ahead and talked with my parents. They were all for it."
Goodson put in the call to Steele, who handed the phone over to head coach Dabo Swinney after the news was given.
"They were surprised at first and then they were just excited," Goodson said.
LSU, Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee had also been in contact. His other offers included Coastal Carolina and North Carolina Central.
Through six games this season, Goodson has 90 tackles, five sacks, one interception and three touchdowns. He recorded 96 tackles, six tackles for loss and a pair of sacks.
Goodson also contributed on the offensive side of the ball as a junior, where he caught 16 passes for 220 yards and two scores. He was named to the Class A All-state Team.
