OLB/DE Terrance Smith Profile
Terrance Smith, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound, four-star defensive end/outside linebacker from Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, Ga., has been a "soft" commit to Florida State since April and says he remains committed to the Seminoles despite a recent October official trip to Georgia.
Smith visited Georgia officially on Oct. 9 for the Tennessee game.
"It was pretty good," Smith said about his trip to Georgia. "I liked interacting with the coaches and getting to see their business school.
"The coaches are all cool people. They really seem to have the players' best interest at heart."
Smith, ranked as the No. 23 defensive end in the country by Scout.com, says he also likes the Dawgs defense.
"They showed me how I'd fit in and I like the 3-4 defense they have," he said. "They said I'd be used as an outside rusher."
He says that Georgia is actually recruiting him the hardest.
"They had a rough start," he said about the Bulldogs. "But I think they're back heading in the right direction."
On Nov. 27 Smith will be taking an official visit to Clemson for the South Carolina game.
Smith was actually born in Anderson, South Carolina, and grew up following the Tigers.
"Anderson is only a few minutes from Clemson," he said. "It's just a great school and that's still home to me. I'm very comfortable there."
His cousin is freshman wide receive DeAndre Hopkins for the Tigers.
"He says I'd have a big impact if I went there," he said. "But he says to follow my heart."
On Nov. 13 Smith is set to visit the Seminoles officially.
"I really like how they've turned things around," he said about Florida State. "They're getting better and better and I love how aggressive the defense has been playing. Guys are making big plays and even the offense has been stepping up. They've got a good future."
Although Smith wouldn't divulge any percentage of how solid his commitment is but says he still believes he'll be signing with the ‘Noles in February.
"I'm pretty solid with them," he said. "That's where I see myself going. That's the plan."
So why the other trips?
"I wanted to make sure it's the best decision for me," he said. "And so far I still think that it is."
Another school that Smith is considering taking an official visit to is Alabama.
"That's a big program," he said about the Tide. "I like how much they put towards football. They are dedicated to the team and they prepare you to be the best.
"I also love competition and you know that at Alabama you'll be going against the best."
Smith has helped lead his team to a 7-2 record with around 60 tackles and 10 sacks.
"I'm good at the pass rush and I have good speed," he said. "I'm quick off the edge and have a great first step. I'm also pretty strong."
He says he can bench 315-pounds, squat 490 and claims a 37-inch vertical jump.
"I want to get better at dropping in the zone and work on my man coverage," he said.
Smith plans to major in business management and reports a 3.2 core GPA and a 1400 three-part SAT.
