Clemson commit Grady Jarrett spent this weekend on official visit in Clemson.
Rumph, Steele talk to Jarrett
The Scout.com three-star defensive tackle from Rockdale County High School (Conyers, Ga.) told CUTigers that Rumph was scheduled to be by for a visit on Thursday.
"It was a surprise," Jarrett said, when asked about Rumph's departure from the Tigers to the Tide. "It's a good move for him. I understand. I'm not mad at him. I know it's a business."
Rumph, the former recruiter of record, called Jarrett on Wednesday night.
"He just explained the situation to me. It made me feel better about it. He didn't say anything bad about Clemson, he just said it was a good opportunity for him," Jarrett said.
Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele called, too.
"Coach Steele was telling me, even though Rumph was gone, we're still a family, and he'll always be our friend. It will end up working out fine," Jarrett said.
After a bit of doubt, he's sticking to his commitment.
"I thought it would be better for me to stay…I'm sure about it now," Jarrett said.
Steele and defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison will make an in-home visit on Thursday.
Jarrett has still not set his official visit to Clemson, but could be in town the weekend of the awards banquet, which is scheduled for Jan. 14-16.
