ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The nation's No. 3 middle linebacker will play football at Clemson University.
Nation's No. 1 LB visits Clemson
Tony Steward, the nation's top middle linebacker is down to Clemson and Florida State. This weekend he was in Clemson on official.
"We got in at like 8:30 Saturday morning," he said. "I had breakfast and met up with the other coaches. Then, we went on some tours and had the little academic meeting."
The Scout.com five-star spent plenty of time with his recruiter, recruiting coordinator/wide receivers coach Jeff Scott and head coach Dabo Swinney.
"It was pretty good. I pretty much see coach Scott on the regular. It was good to see the other coaches there and to see coach Swinney," Steward said.
He shared some details of his Sunday exit meeting with Swinney.
"Just why they were recruiting me and why he thought I'd fit in with Clemson, just stuff like that," Steward said.
When asked about his talks with Steele, he said, "I wouldn't really call it a meeting. We sat and talked for a while. It wasn't about football or anything like that."
Rashard Hall, who's also from St. Augustine, Fla., hosted Steward. They've known one another since Hall was a senior in high school.
"It was good spending time with a guy from the same area as me. We just talked about why he chose Clemson, how he thought I could fit in," Anthony said. "It really just helped me out to make my decision."
This weekend was the first visit to Clemson for Steward's mother.
"She enjoyed it. The thing that she enjoyed most, she was able to get up here and see for herself and not hear other people's opinions on Clemson," he said.
Steward will announce his decision on Feb. 2, national signing day.
Clemson or Florida State, are they still tied at the top?
"They're dead even," he said.
