Smith delays enrollment
Smith made his official visit to Clemson the weekend of Jan. 7-9, and he was back in town this past weekend. On Sunday, he elected to not enroll a semester early.
"It's really a number of things…I felt like it wasn't the best choice for me, at this point," he told CUTigers.
Now, Smith plans on heading to Clemson for the first session of summer school classes.
He's in the middle of basketball season at Woodland High School. And instead of playing baseball in the spring, he'll focus on training for the next level.
"I'm probably just as big as some of the people there, and probably bigger than some of the freshman. I'll probably focus more on my speed," Smith said.
During the North/South game, the Scout.com No. 72 safety in the class of 2011 played a safety/outside linebacker hybrid. A four-year starter at quarterback, Smith wanted to be under center in the all-star game.
"When I got there, quarterback was on my mind," he said. "But [safety is] probably where I'm going to play in college."
And it looked like he was pretty comfortable on the defensive side of the ball.
"A lot of people said I should have probably had MVP of the game. I had nine tackles, 2.5 sacks, four tackles for loss," Smith said. "I recorded the first tackle of the game, for a loss. I had a real good game. I think seven of them were solo tackles."
