Swinney intrigued by SC ATH
Fox Creek High School junior Marty Williams had already picked an offer up from Arkansas, prior to visiting Clemson.
But the one he received Saturday hit a little bit closer to home.
"It was good, it was real good. The coaching staff seems like they know what they're talking about," Williams told CUTigers after his trip to Tigertown. "The head coach [Dabo Swinney] called me into his office. I shook his hand and we sat down. He asked me what I wanted to major in. I told him I wanted to major in music. He had a guitar in his office. He told me to play for him and I started playing guitar for him.
"He said he wanted to give me a full scholarship to the school and I was the most interesting player he's seen so far."
The offer was capped what turned out to be a very enjoyable afternoon.
"It was real good. I got to go to the basketball game and everything—the fan-base," he said. "It seems like everybody communicates well at the school. The school is in a small town, which I really love, because I come from a small town. I fell in love with the place."
N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Florida and Georgia are currently evaluating Williams. He's yet to set any other visit dates, but could be heading down to Florida to watch the Gators' spring practice.
"Clemson is the only place I've visited, so far. I haven't visited any other places, but I really love Clemson," Williams said.
A quarterback/wide receiver/safety at Fox Creek, schools at the next level are considering him as a running back and/or strong safety, and he has no preferred position.
As a junior, Williams rushed 1,980 yards and 23 touchdowns and threw for 650 yards. On the defensive side of the ball he had 48 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles.
