OG D.J. Reader
Grimsley High School (Greensboro) junior guard D.J. Reader
recently spoke with CUTigers
about that visit to Tigertown.
"It was really fun. I talked to a couple of the coaches. I had a good time," he said. "At lunch, I sat with [Jay Guillermo
], who is already committed to Clemson. It was a good experience to get down there and see what Clemson is all about."
Reader had one-on-one conversations with head coach Dabo Swinney
, recruiting coordinator Jeff Scott
, offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell
and administrator Brad Scott
The visit was the first-time Reader was able to have an in-depth, in person one-on-one with Caldwell.
"He's a good coach. It looks like he knows what he talks about. He seems to produce good linemen," Reader said.
But it was the conversation with Swinney that really stood out to him.
"He talked about how to just go out and visit other schools, make sure you're going to pick your school—the school you want to go to," Reader said. "Don't just pick a school off of one visit, which was really surprising, because usually people just lock down and say, ‘Come to my school.'
"He was just telling me to keep my options open and see what I think is right, not just what they think is right."
Clemson remains in contention for his services.
"My interest level with Clemson is pretty high, just like it is with every other school," Reader said. "I'm just keeping my options open. This summer, I'll probably figure out which schools are higher on my radar than others."
Along with the Clemson visit, he's recently visited N.C. State, North Carolina and Duke. He'll visit South Carolina and Auburn in the near future.
Reader, who also possesses a 90 mile per hour fastball, would like to play both football and baseball at the college level. Baseball didn't come up during his visit to Tigertown.
"I was so in-depth in my visit there, and so focused, I just didn't even get the time to talk about it," he said.
Jeff Scott is serving as the primary recruiter to Clemson.
