Clemson red-shirt senior defensive end Kourtnei Brown suffered a sprained knee at the beginning of practice on Monday and will be out for the rest of spring practice.

He should be ready to return to workouts early this summer.

Brown suffered the injury in a punting drill. He was rushing the punter and had his knee rolled on during the play.

A native of Charlotte, Brown played in 11 games last year for 212 plays and had 17 tackles, including two tackles for loss and four quarterback pressures. He is a veteran of 35 games in his career and has 50 tackles. He missed two games last year due to a high ankle sprain, an injury he suffered on his second snap against Boston College. But he was in good health at the time of the injury. He was competing for a starting defensive end position this spring.

Brown lettered in 2007 and 2008, then red-shirted the 2009 season.
