Offer extended to Zandi

Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell extended an offer to this 6-foot-8, 265-pound instate offensive tackle on Thursday.

Chapin High School 2012 offensive tackle Mason Zandi camped at both Clemson and South Carolina in June and proved he was worth an offer.

"Originally, they were negotiating a grey-shirt offer for me," Zandi told about his contact with Clemson. "[Caldwell] said that some of the 2012 prospects were kind of coming in really slow, going on visits and they wanted to offer me a scholarship, instead of a grey-shirt."

The offer means a lot to Zandi, who'd picked one up from South Carolina on Wednesday.

"It was a privilege and an honor for an offer from schools like [Clemson and South Carolina]," he said.

What does the senior think of the two schools?

Clemson: It's family-oriented. They take care of each other. They're their brothers' keeper. Regardless if you're the water boy or the head coach, nobody thinks of them self as higher than the other.

South Carolina: They had a good season. They have a championship team and an overall great program.

Currently, there is no favorite.

"They're pretty even for me, as of now," Zandi said. "Like I said before, it's a real honor and a privilege to be considered by both."

He has no timeline for a decision. And, at this point, there's little one school can do to gain favor over the other.

"It's really going to come down to pros and cons of both universities. I'm going to have to sit down with my family before I make a decision," Zandi said.

East Carolina and several 1-AA schools have expressed interest but he has no other offers. Recommended Stories
