Peach state DT talks with Hobby
The senior defensive tackle from Thomson High School (Ga.) has already visited Auburn, Alabama and Georgia this summer. Later this week, he'll head to Georgia Tech and Florida. On July 29, Atkins will visit Clemson.
On Monday, he spoke with his recruiter of note from Clemson, defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.
"We were talking about me coming down for a visit and he was just saying that I'm wanted there," Atkins told CUTigers.com on Monday.
He'll be on the lookout for two things while in Clemson.
"Education and to see if it feels like home up there," Atkins said.
The 6-foot-4, 303-pound defensive tackle pulled for Clemson when he was younger, so he's familiar with the Tigers.
"I really liked some of their defensive players, like Gaines Adams and Da'Quan Bowers," Atkins said.
With no claimed list of favorites, Atkins plans to continue with the recruiting process for "another month or two."
As a junior, he played tight end and offensive tackle at Thomson. Atkins will play nose guard this fall. He bench presses 375 pounds, squats 505 pounds and power cleans 315 pounds
