Allen sees big opportunity for Clemson
The redshirt junior tight end would rather see the Tigers' running game blow up the stat sheet.
"Coach Morris made a statement where he was proud of me for not being selfish and asking for the ball," Allen said. "Shoot, I want to be a part of an offensive line group that has the nation's top rusher. That's my goal, because I believe in those guys in the backfield.
"I believe in Andre Ellington, Mike [Bellamy] and the rest of those guys back there. I believe that we can do it."
Saturday presents yet another opportunity for the Clemson ball carriers to pad their stats.
Through two games this season, No. 19 Auburn has allowed an average of 280 rushing yards per game, which is third-worst in the country.
Utah State totaled 227 yards and five touchdowns in week one. Seven days later, Mississippi State racked up 333 yards and two scores.
Despite the gaudy numbers, Allen remained complimentary of the Auburn defense.
"You can't really put a finger on it, but those guys are really good," he said. "They find a way to win. They've given up 280 yards rushing, but got two w's out of it."
Winning is all Auburn has done lately. Those Tigers have won 17 in a row, including last year's BCS title game.
At noon on Saturday, they'll clash with Clemson in Death Valley.
The buzz around campus has ratcheted up a level, more so than it was for the first two games of the 2011 campaign.
"You feel it around this whole university," Allen said. "There was no one camping out for Wofford tickets, or for Troy tickets. There was a line around the stadium for Auburn tickets. Just seeing that, I'm sure it's going to put a little bit more attention to detail into guys when they're preparing, studying and getting ready for this game."
Not only can Clemson improve to 3-0 on the season, but the Tigers also have a chance to avenge last year's overtime loss to the eventual national champions.
"Whenever you have the national champions coming into your house, there's no telling what can happen after that," Allen said. "Those guys are riding a 17-game win streak. We just have to seize the day. It's a big opportunity for us, for Clemson football."
