Ex-Michigan PF considering Clemson
PF Evan Smotrycz Profile A four-star power forward out of The New Hampton School [New Hampshire] in 2010, Smotrycz averaged 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Wolverines this past season. After his sophomore campaign, Smotrycz was granted a release by Michigan head coach John Beilein. "It just wasn't a good fit for me. I just wasn't happy there. I didn't feel like it would be beneficial for the program to have me there. It wasn't a good spot for me. I just want to be somewhere that I can be happy," he said in a recent interview with CUTigers. Clemson, along with Baylor, Maryland, Colorado, Xavier, Providence and Kansas State are under consideration by the 6-foot-9 power forward. "Coach [Brad] Brownell was one of the first coaches to get my release and contact me," Smotrycz said. "He told me where he thought I'd fit in. I haven't really had a chance to do a ton of homework on all these schools. I feel like Clemson might be a good fit." Brownell has been in contact with Smotrycz on more than one occasion. "We've talked a couple of times. We talked about possibly coming this weekend for an in-home visit, but I feel like all the coaches have wanted to try to do one of those before the dead period," Smotrycz. "I told him not to worry about it because my schedule was already pretty crammed. I think a visit or a visit from him will probably be in store for the near future." Coaches from Maryland, Xavier and Providence will be in for visits with Smotrycz this weekend. He'll visit Maryland's campus next weekend. "I'm going to set some more up in the near future, but I have finals coming up, so I want to get done with school and make sure I finish strong, and then worry about visits," he said. Smotrycz has already visited Clemson once. He played at Littlejohn Coliseum during his freshman year when the Michigan travelled to Tigertown for a game. "It's a real cool place to play, how you have the student section right behind the goal. That was my first real, big college game. That was a cool place to play. I didn't get to see too much of campus because we got in at night and it was really rainy. I've heard it's really nice. Littlejohn was a really good gym to shoot in."
