For the latest on four-star defensive tackle Michael Hill, CUTigers caught up with Pendleton High…
State's top player visits Clemson
The four-star defensive tackle watched the Tigers' stadium scrimmage that afternoon. On Monday night, CUTigers caught up with Pendleton High School head coach Paul Sutherland, who accompanied him on the visit.
"It was important to get him over there for a scrimmage. I've been working on it, because it's so close. With his track schedule, between track and everything, I haven't been able to get him over there," Sutherland said. "I told coach [Chad] Morris and coach [Dan] Brooks last week that today would be the best. We're not [back] in school yet, because of spring break.
"It was good to get him up there, be around the guys and everything. As soon as we walked in, they said, coach [Dabo] Swinney wants you to report directly to him. He went up there and watched the scrimmage with coach Swinney."
After the scrimmage ended, Hill spent some time with Brooks.
"It's just very important for him to get up close and a personal look at them, and of course them being one of the state schools and being so close," Sutherland said.
After the trip, Hill shared a few thoughts with Sutherland.
"The player and coach relationships…he's very comfortable with those coaches. We talked about a lot of things," Sutherland said.
The 6-foot-2, 315-plund prospect told his coach that he wants to see a few more schools before cutting down his list.
"He admitted to me that he's forming some things up in his mind. That's important," Sutherland said. "He's not going to release anything until he sees all the campuses."
Along with Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee have offered. USC, LSU, Michigan State and Florida State have expressed interest.
Hill's also visited South Carolina and Tennessee. Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Florida are the other schools he'd like to see between now and the fall.
"He's very comfortable with those eight [offers]. He realizes we can't go into the fall with eight…he told me again today that his goal is to announce before his senior season, before the games actually start," Sutherland said.
As a junior, Hill had 81 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, six sacks and four forced fumbles.
