There's never a shortage of talent at Daniel High School. Over the years the program has produced…
2014 Intro: Jae'lon Oglesby
And most have gone on to sign with the university that's just 10 miles down the road.
Washington Redskins defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins inked with Clemson in 2007. DeAndre Hopkins signed in 2010 and he was joined by DeShawn Williams in 2011.
Jerrodd Williams, who originally signed with Virginia Tech in 2009, transferred to Clemson and Shaquille Lawson committed to Clemson for the 2012 haul. On the day of Lawson's signing, D.J. Greenlee committed to the Tigers' 2013 class.
Also among the Daniel signees was 2011 wide receiver Antonio Cannon, who's at East Carolina.
Up next in the pipeline over at Daniel is 2014 running back Jae'lon Oglesby. Clemson, South Carolina and North Carolina have begun to show interest in the 5-foot-11, 168-pound rising junior.
"Oglesby can be as good as he wants to be. He's got the God-given talent. He's got the tools. It's just a matter of how hard he wants to work at it," Robinson told CUTigers in a recent interview at Daniel. "A lot of kids that are that talented don't work hard until they get to college. If he makes a little more of a commitment in the weight room, he could be really, really special."
As a freshman, Oglesby played both jayvee and varsity. With the varsity, he worked mostly as a kick returner.
Oglesby broke out as a sophomore, rushing 221 times for 1,731 yards and 25 touchdowns. He caught nine passes for 97 yards and a score and returned three kickoffs for 105 yards.
He has one goal for 2012.
"I want to go to state," he said. "That's it."
It's been a while since Daniel made it that far in the playoffs.
"They've gone to Upper State plenty of years," Oglesby said. "They haven't been to the state game since the 90's. That's where I want to go, to try to win state. That's my biggest goal."
Along the recruiting trail, he's heard from Clemson, South Carolina and North Carolina.
"The letter I got last year, Dabo [Swinney] wrote me a letter saying he wanted me to come to the camp in June. That'll probably be my first camp at a school," Oglesby said.
For now, that's the only campus trip he has in the works. Chances are pretty good that it won't be that way for long.
