Grayson High School defensive line coach Lenny Gregory talks about the commitment of five-star…
Analysis: Robert Nkemdiche
Hometown: Loganville, Ga.
High School: Grayson
Position: Defensive End
Ranking on Scout: No. 1 DE / No. 1 Overall
Recruiting Notes: Most considered Alabama as the team to beat for the past year with LSU being number two. Clemson became a real contender over the past six months and they landed a commitment from Nkemdiche on Thursday afternoon. He is the third prospect out of Grayson to commit to the Tigers in 2013. Wayne Gallman was first and David Kamara committed early on Thursday as well. This is a huge get for the Tigers and it will be interesting to see now if he returns to Tuscaloosa or Baton between now and Signing Day.
Analysis: Nkemdiche was ready to compete for playing time on the collegiate level by the end of his junior season in high school if you ask me. He is physically ready, mentally ready, and he is off the charts athletically for a guy his size. He is a prospect that can take over a game on the defensive line if he doesn't get bored. He can be used in many different ways when he gets to college too because of the rare combination or size, speed, and strength. He could be a strong end on the edge or a quick tackle inside. He can chase the ball down with the best of them and he is extremely good at changing direction. On the high school level, he faces consistent double-teams and is triple-teamed at times as well, but he is known for playing hard until the whistle blows. If there is a downside to his game, it may be his overall ceiling.
He may not have too much room for improvement when he gets to college, but even if he stays similar to what he is now, he will be someone playing on Sundays down the road. Like most DLs, he can work on his overall technique and pad level, so expect improvement there, but he is so college ready right now. Nkemdiche led Grayson to a perfect 15-0 season as a junior helping at running back and on the defensive line. He will enter college as ready as anyone because of the staff at Grayson, so Clemson fans should be very excited about the commitment they received on Thursday.
