Coach speak: Robert Nkemdiche
Nkemdiche, the No. 1 player in the country, brings more to the table than all-world talent. He is, according to Gregory, a top-notch person off the field.
"He's part of a tight, Christian group of players that…buys into what we are at Grayson, building high-character. That's what he was looking for in a school," Gregory told CUTigers on Thursday night, after Nkemdiche's commitment to Clemson.
"He's been to Clemson several times. He felt like Clemson -- he had that feeling. I think, the fact that a couple of his teammates are going there, too. I think [that] really attracted him."
To the surprise of many, Clemson picked up Nkemdiche's commitment over the nation's premier programs, most notably Alabama and LSU.
"He's not worried about what's the best place to get personal benefits. He's looking at something as a team -- the type of character and type of players, all of that," Gregory said. "For whatever reason, that's the things that are coming out of his mouth, what he likes about it. That's the type of kid he is. He's a really good kid."
A really good kid who just so happens to be one heck of a football player.
"I think, the first time I put my eyes on Robert, I thought, this is going to be a good one. You can just look at him and tell," Gregory said.
The legend of Nkemdiche began in 2010.
As a sophomore against Brookwood, Gregory recalled, Nkemdiche registered four sacks.
"Just the way he played, that was one of the top nights that kind of got him going. From that game, from there on, he just dominated," Gregory said.
