Stud 2014 prospect has a leader
It was the first visit to Tigertown for Dudley High School [Greensboro] linebacker Chris Register.
"I felt at home when I went. I live in kind of the same setting, with trees and fields, in the country," he told CUTigers recently.
Register spoke with several of the Clemson coaches while in town.
"They were saying they wanted me to see what else is out there for me. I felt like they were trying to make me come, but I really felt at home there," he said. "I really feel like that is a good place for me."
Clemson offered Register earlier this spring. For now, Indiana is the only other school that's offered. He thinks South Carolina and North Carolina could be next.
Register also visited South Carolina in June. He'll head to North Carolina and Alabama in July.
"It was my first time down there [in Columbia]. They just threw me in with the regular people. I felt like just another…they really didn't pay that much attention to me," he said.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect, who has family in Alabama, grew up pulling for the Crimson Tide. But he has another team as his leader.
"I have four that I'm favoring. That would be Clemson, Alabama, South Carolina and N.C. State," Register said.
He added, "I'm really favoring Clemson right now. Clemson would be first on my list."
A decision won't be made anytime soon.
"I don't want to decide too early. I'll just say that," Register said.
As a sophomore, he had 90 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, four interceptions and four pass breakups. The stats were recorded in just nine games. He missed the first four games of the season because of a fractured bone in his foot.
