Junior DB discusses The Opening

Of the 150 participants in this year's edition of The Opening, only three were juniors, the rest seniors.

DB Quin Blanding Profile

Bayside High School [Virginia Beach, Va.] defensive back Quin Blanding was one of those juniors at this year's event.

"That was very exciting, just competing with the best of the best from 2013. It was just an honor to be out there with them," he told CUTigers earlier this week.

The upperclassmen wanted a piece of the 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect.

"They all knew I was a young one, so they all tried to compete with me. It was a very good experience, competing with them," Blanding said. "I showed my talents and they showed their talents when we were out there competing against each other."

This summer, he hopes to visit Virginia Tech. But that's the only one in mind right now.

He hopes to get to Clemson at some point.

"I'm going to try to get down there. With this busy schedule right now, it's hard to get anywhere right now," Blanding said.

Twenty-two schools have offered, including Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Who leads?

"It's all open still. I'm just still laid back right now, until my junior season kicks off. Then, I'm going to break stuff down."

As a sophomore, Blanding recorded seven interceptions.
