Damarcus Harrison has joined the Clemson men’s basketball program, Head Coach Brad Brownell announced Monday.
Harrison appeared in 30 games as a freshman at Brigham Young University in 2011-12. NCAA rules require a men’s basketball transfer to serve a year in residence, but Clemson plans to file a waiver to allow him to compete immediately.
“We’re excited to add Damarcus to our program,” Brownell said. “He’s an athletic wing with a good skill set, and will certainly provide our team with much needed depth at his position.”
Harrison has signed an athletic aid agreement and is transferring from BYU. Harrison, originally from Greenwood, SC, helped the Cougars to the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 3.2 points per game in 8.8 minutes per game last season as a freshman. Harrison scored a career-high 12 points against Iona in the NCAA Tournament. He also scored 11 versus Longwood, nine against Wisconsin and eight versus Baylor.
Harrison played two seasons at Greenwood High School before playing for Christ School in Arden, NC from 2009-11. He helped Christ School to consecutive NCISAA State Championships as a junior and senior.
He was a first-team AAA all-state selection and Jordan Brand Regional Classic All-Star as a senior after averaging 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
