CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Robert Dinkins, a 2014 prospect from Olympic High School, admits that he rushed…
UNC commitment likes Clemson
Because of that interest in Bowers and the Tigers, Robert Dinkins still has his eye on Clemson.
"I loved to watch Da'Quan Bowers. I've watched every game he had more than once -- online, live on TV. I've seen it all, interviews and everything. He was kind of my role models growing up," Dinkins told CUTigers in a recent interview.
"I still pull for Clemson, when I'm not pulling for Carolina."
The Olympic High School [Charlotte, N.C.] junior camped at Clemson in June. Shortly after his camp stay in Tigertown he committed to North Carolina.
Clemson offered shortly after he pledged.
According to Dinkins, Clemson defensive ends coach Marion Hobby sent him home with a better understanding of the position.
"They definitely gave me some tools to put in my arsenal, as far as hip movement, explosiveness, my stance. It just helped out a lot with my fundamentals," Dinkins said. "I took a lot from it and can implement it to my game now."
He was also impressed with the facilities.
"It was amazing. Their weight room and locker room, it was mind blowing. I've never seen anything like it. It was ridiculous," Dinkins said.
So what made him want to commit to the Tar Heels?
"The biggest thing with Carolina, I guess I felt that home atmosphere. It was basically just feeling at home," he said. "At Clemson, don't get me wrong, a lot of the coaches embraced me, knew me. They showed me a lot of love. But, I think with Carolina…it just felt like home.
"I'm not saying that's where I'm going to stick. There's a possibility that things could change, but for right now, I think that's where I want to go."
Dinkins plans to visit both North Carolina and Clemson for games this season.
"I want to get to some Clemson games. Like I said, I grew up loving those guys. I've always wanted to see a game up close and personal, so I definitely want to go see a couple of their games," he said. "I'm definitely going to some Carolina games, too."
North Carolina and Clemson are the only two schools with offers out to Dinkins.
N.C. State, Florida State and Wake Forest are also in contact.
As a sophomore, Dinkins had 39 tackles and nine sacks.
