CLEMSON - CUTigers talks with Tyler Shatley after a strong start for Clemson's offensive line…
Halfway point evaluation
"It's about what I was expecting it to be. I feel a lot more comfortable now that I've gotten six games under my belt," Shatley said. "After every game, I feel a little more comfortable with the way the offense works and how I played my position, to get better."
He was named Offensive Lineman of the Week by the ACC after Clemson's 47-31 win over Georgia Tech.
The 6-foot-3, 295-pound redshirt junior played 91 snaps as Clemson rolled up 601 yards of total offense on the Yellow Jackets. Shatley recorded five knockdown blocks, graded out at 91 percent and did not allow a sack.
"That definitely was a good game," Shatley said. "A lot of the credit goes to Dalton [Freeman] and Giff [Timothy]. Those guys had good games. I couldn't have done it without them."
Despite Clemson's 5-1 start, Shatley welcomes this week's open date with open arms. After twisting his ankle in the Furman game, he hasn't quite been 100 percent since then.
"It's getting better. This week will definitely help it," he said.
According to the first-year starter, the bye week couldn't come at a better time for the team.
"It's definitely a good time [to] get everybody healed up. It's right in the middle of the season. Everybody's kind of starting to get beat up," he said. "It's a nice time, especially physically and mentally, to get a little break."
Shatley looks forward to building on what was an impressive first half of the season for the Clemson offense. The Tigers are 10th in total offense, 11th in passing offense, 13th in scoring offense and 31st in rushing offense.
"It's very exciting, but we still left a lot on the table. We've just got to keep working," he said. "I think that's a good thing. We haven't reached our full potential. We're still climbing. That'll give us something to work for."
