Quick turnaround to Wake Forest

Dabo Swinney and company will have an accelerated schedule for this week’s Thursday night trip up to Wake Forest.

“It’s something we’ve been working on for a while,” Swinney said, during Sunday night’s teleconference. “They came in here at 4:15 today. We had a team meeting, our normal kind of Monday meeting, special teams.

“We broke for dinner at 5. They’re in segment meetings right now, until about 7:10. We’ll flex at 7:30. We’ll have a light practice tonight, kind of our normal Monday practice.”

Monday will be like a normal Tuesday practice and Tuesday will be like a Wednesday.

“We’ll be in shells tomorrow and put the pads on Tuesday. We’ll practice as long as we normally would tomorrow and Tuesday,” Swinney said. “It’s a short week and you’ve got to get them fresh and ready to go again. We’ll travel up to Winston-Salem on Wednesday have a normal game prep routine on Wednesday then game day on Thursday.”

Early look at the Deacs

Led by Jim Grobe, Wake Forest enters week eight with a 4-3 record [2-3 ACC].

“They’re very well coached. They always present some schematic issues, because they do a good job of formationing you and setting edges, and creating a numbers advantage.” Swinney said. “You’ve got to be really sound in what you’re doing with them.

“Our offense against their defense, they’ve always been a movement defense that you have to catch. They’re very subtle and they always present challenges. You’ve got to be able to block them. Hopefully, we’ll match up with them.”

Issues in pass protection

Before Saturday’s meeting with Virginia Tech, the Clemson offensive line had given up just 10 sacks all season. Tajh Boyd was sacked five times by the Hokies.

“We just got beat. It was poor technique and poor fundamentals, nothing more than that,” Swinney said. “There was one particular time -- I think Tajh was a little too deep with his drop, needed to step up. But, still, we didn’t do a very good job protecting.”

Both technique and fundamentals, according to Swinney, were off.

“That was probably the worst game we’ve played on the offensive line all year,” Swinney said.
