The Clemson defensive backfield took another hit on Wednesday when Dabo Swinney announced that Bashaud Breeland will miss Thursday night’s game with an abdominal strain.
Breeland is the Tigers’ second starting cornerback to go down with an injury this week.
Darius Robinson
will miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his ankle against Virginia Tech.
Starting at cornerback against Wake Forest will be senior
Xavier Brewer
and redshirt sophomore
Garry Peters
, who has seven tackles, two pass breakups and one interception in 172 snaps this season.
Redshirt freshman
Cortez Davis
will be the third cornerback on Thursday. Davis has five tackles in 15 snaps this season.
Wide receiver
Adam Humphries
has received work at cornerback during practice this week and could see playing time there on Thursday.
The news of Breeland’s status was compounded when Wake Forest head coach
Jim Grobe
said that leading wide receiver
Michael Campanaro
“will definitely play” against Clemson.
Campanaro leads all Demon Deacon wide receivers with 38 catches for 429 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also returned five punts for 26 yards.
Against Clemson last year, Campanaro caught nine passes for 72 yards and returned three punts for 63 yards and a touchdown.
