WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Offensive coordinator Chad Morris breaks down the performance by the Clemson offense in the 42-13 win over Wake Forest.
How about the play of Sammy Watkins?
Morris
: He kind of got in the flow of the game and it was good. You see that spark and it gives everybody so much energy when you saw that.
What’s the biggest thing for your offense, moving forward?
Morris
: We worry about ourselves, making sure we can establish some consistency. I thought, in the third quarter, we lost our little edge, lost our focus. We made some inappropriate throws and just couldn’t create a first-down or two, here and there. It’s good to see them get back going again.
Just consistency, especially with the way we played last week and just couldn’t get anything going, really, offensively. Just to see those guys get going today -- spreading the ball around, that’s the key. When we’re spreading the ball around, this offense is moving well.
Were you more aggressive tonight in play calling?
Morris
: Yes. I was, because of the way that they were playing us. People are going to try to play us man coverage and we’re going to be aggressive with that. We were able to make some plays. Again, it was great to see Sammy get going and to back them off and throw the ball over the top.
It’s tough to be critical after this kind of production, but are there still things to work on?
Morris
: Oh, obviously, plenty of things to work on, being able to run the football, knock them off the ball. But, when they’re putting everybody in the box, you’ve got to throw the football. We’re excited about the win. It was a great win for us. Coming off last week when we weren’t on our game, Tajh [Boyd] wasn’t on his game, to see him perform for a half like he did and pick it up in the fourth quarter like he did, that was huge for us. It gave us a lot of confidence. To get Sammy Watkins going and Nuk [Hopkins], everybody just feeds off that.
And how about getting a lot of people involved?
Morris
: I think that’s huge. If you go back and look at the last 20-something games we’ve been here, we’re at our best when we’re spreading the football around and all over the field. To be able to see people catch passes and be involved, Charone Peake, Martavis Bryant, Adam Humphries, all of them getting involved. That’s what’s big about this.
Can you talk about having to share of Humphries on the other side of the ball?
Morris
: It was good. Adam is such a great player and a great competitor -- whatever we’ve got to do to win.
