S Quin Blanding
The Bayside High School [Virginia Beach, Va.] junior said the defense employed by first-year defensive coordinator Brent Venables
has gone a long way for Clemson.
"I just like the style of the defense they're playing right now," Blanding recently told CUTigers
. "As of right now, I feel like I can go in there and be a factor along with the other players down there. It kind of fits my style of play, so that's why I picked them."
Clemson has not hosted Blanding for a visit yet, but he plans to make a visit to Tigertown in the near future. But no plans have been set.
This season, he's visited Virginia and North Carolina.
Like Clemson, both of those schools are in his top 10. So are Florida State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Miami, N.C. State and Michigan.
"I just really had to sit down and look at the depth charts of them and just if I could see myself playing in that uniform, in that stadium, in that type of environment on that defense, and just see if it fits me," Blanding said, when listing the factors that went into his decision.
Next, he plans to cut the list to five, but has not put a timetable on it.
So far this season, Blanding has 114 tackles and five interceptions. On the offensive side of the ball, he has 1,000 yards receiving with seven touchdowns.
As a sophomore, Blanding had seven interceptions.
