Tigers with early offer to top PG
Three are from the Columbia area -- Marcus Stroman, P.J. Dozier and Seventh Woods.
One prospect from the foursome, Jawun Evans, hails from Greenville.
The Legacy Charter School sophomore already holds offers from Clemson and Cincinnati.
"He's a humble kid. He's a team player," said Legacy Charter head coach B.J. Jackson, who led his team to a 108-85 win over Oakbrook Prep on Tuesday night.
With CUTigers on hand to watch, Evans logged his seventh triple-double of the season with 24 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds.
"You look at the game where so many post players missed layups, but he continued to go to them," Jackson said. "He's the one telling them, ‘Catch the ball, finish. I'm going to keep feeding you.' So he's a team player. He wants everybody to be successful."
That's Evans' game, in a nutshell.
"I've coached a lot of good ones -- Robbie Dreher, Chris Rose, Quinton Thomas, but I think [Evans] is developing into a complete player," Jackson said. "Right now, he's good on the offensive end, as well as the defensive end.
"He leads our team in rebounding as a point guard, as well as steals. He's that complete player. He's working on his long-range shot."
Said Jackson, "Him being a team player, that's going to carry him a long ways."
It's already caught the eye of Brad Brownell and the Clemson coaching staff. The Tigers extended an offer in December while Evans was on campus for a visit.
Clemson assistant Earl Grant serves as Evans' primary recruiter for the Tigers. The two are in contact every couple of weeks.
"We just talk about everything, like video games, football, how my family is doing and stuff like that," Evans said.
The sophomore point guard said he and Grant have a good relationship.
"He's just a laid back, cool coach. That's what I like," Evans said.
So far this season, he's averaging 19 points, 7.5 assists, 7.6 rebounds and four steals.
As a freshman at Southside High School, he averaged 13 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds.
