Player: DE Devante Bond
School: Rocklin (CA) Sierra
Recruiting: Bond had scholarship offers from schools like Syracuse, Houston, and Fresno State before getting offered by the Canes at the end of the 2012 season. He visited in December and committed soon after. He never visited anyone else after that.
Scouting Report: Bond is a talented edge pass rusher. He played a lot of standup linebacker but when he put his hand in the dirt he was very tough to handle off the edge. – Mike Bakas
2012 season: Bond finished his sophomore season with 59 total tackles, 39 solo, 20 assisted, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and one blocked punt.
Mike’s Take: Miami has a major need for pass rushers. That’s what Bond does. It’s his specialty. He gets after opposing quarterbacks. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, he’ll likely never be a full-time defensive end. He will be counted upon to provide the heat, and to do it right away. While he was able to do it pretty well this past season, it remains to be seen how well that will translate to the major college level in 2013.
