Rooks hopes to add a shooter's touch
A three-star shooting guard prospect, according to Scout.com, Rooks will be a welcome addition to the program.
Clemson averaged 61.5 points per game in 2012-13, the school's lowest scoring average since the 1970-71. The Tigers' 31.7 3-point percentage for the season was the lowest since 1996-97.
"Coach Brownell told me he's going to have me coming off a lot of screens next year," Rooks said. "Hopefully, just come in and be a big-time shooter. I feel like that will, pretty much, be my [role] next year."
Rooks finished his senior season at Charlotte Christian with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists per game.
"It started off really strong this year. About two weeks, coming into playoffs, I had a stomach virus that put me out for a while," he said. "I played in a few games, but it got to the point where I had a hard time breathing out there on the court. My mom and dad pulled me off the team for a little while to see what was wrong and get some time for my body to heal.
"Right now, I'm just working out and trying to get ready for Clemson."
The 6-foot-4 senior has adopted a serious regiment.
"I've been working out a lot. I'm really trying my best to gain weight. Right now -- I was about 170-175 -- now, I'm about 180-185," Rooks said. "I'm really trying to get my weight up, get stronger, get prepared…I've been working out about two times a day. I'm just getting ready, getting into focus."
What can Tiger fans look for from Rooks during his first season at Clemson?
"They can expect me to work hard, [give] 100 percent all the time, on and off the court. I'm going to compete and try my best to knock 3s down. And really just, hopefully, help my team win.
"At the end of the day, that's what it all comes down to -- winning games."
