WHAT: Clemson vs. South Carolina
WHERE: Littlejohn Coliseum - Clemson, S.C.
WHEN: Sunday, November 17 (5 p.m.)
TV: ESPN3 (Mike Gleason, Stan Lewter)
The Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak to the Gamecocks with last seasons' 64-55 win. K.J. McDaniels had 16 points in seven rebounds last season in Columbia.
Clemson enters this season's game with wins over Stetson and Delaware State. South Carolina is 1-1 after a win over Longwood and a loss at Baylor.
"I know they're a great defensive and rebounding team, period. So we have to go out there and be ready for a physical game," McDaniels said. "Their coach, he establishes them pretty well. I feel like we match up with them pretty good.
"We have to go out there and play physical with our big men. The guards, we have to go down there and rebound, keep them off the offensive glass. Play good defense and get out and run on them."
South Carolina second-year head coach Frank Martin starts a pair of freshmen that are very familiar to Clemson hoops recruitniks -- shooting guard Sindarius Thornwell and forward Demetrius Henry. Both seriously considered the Tigers before signing to play in Columbia
Thornwell, who's from Lancaster, leads the Gamecocks in scoring with 17 in a game. Henry averages 6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
They're among eight first-year players on the roster, seven of which are freshmen. The other is Villanova transfer Tyrone Johnson, a junior point guard who averages 13 points and 5.5 assists.
"They played Baylor really good…they had a chance to win it," said Damarcus Harrison, a Greenwood native who's second among Clemson scorers with 12.5 per game. "I know this year it's going to be a good game."
Through the Tigers' first two games this season, Harrison is shooting 50 percent from the floor [8 of 16] and 45 percent from behind the 3-pointer [4 of 9].
"I know we're going to be ready to play. It's a big game. I know they're going to be ready because we got them at [their] home last time," Harrison said. "We've just got to come ready to play. It's going to be exciting."
McDaniels, who's from Alabama, has gotten up to snuff on the rivalry during his two years at Clemson.
"Being out of state, coming in I heard it was a big rival. Before I came to Clemson, I saw the games and I knew it was a big game," he said. "But, to be in it, it's an honor. I want to keep Clemson winning. We won last year, but we have to just be tough and go out there and play, know what we can do and go win."
