From Virginia to Clemson...again
ATH Sylvester Mayers, Jr. Profile The first Clemson visit of the season for Glen Allen High School athlete Sylvester Mayers, Jr. was for the Georgia game. He was back several weeks later to see the Tigers play Florida State. "The one thing I remember is just the environment, and how well the fans treat the recruits there," Mayers told CUTigers, when asked about the Florida State game trip. "You can tell they really try to show everybody a good time." Mayers certainly enjoyed himself, despite the outcome of the game. "The overall experience, it's just a really good experience up there," he said. "I really enjoyed myself in Death Valley. I enjoyed the trip down there. I really want to make it there again." In addition to his Clemson visits, Mayers has been to games at Virginia Tech, Penn State and Boston College this season. He hopes to visit N.C. State before the end of the season. For Mayers, his sophomore season is finished. Glen Allen went 4-7 and was knocked out of the first-round of the playoffs by Denbigh. "The season went well. It got off to a great start then I sprained my ankle in the fourth game. I had to give that time to heal," he said. "My first week really being back -- being back was our playoff game. We lost, but I had a pretty good performance." In seven games as a sophomore, Mayers rushed for 615 yards and five touchdowns. He also had 183 receiving yards. As a freshman, Mayers scored 12 total touchdowns, three of which were punt returns and two were returned fumble recoveries. He also had four interceptions and two sacks.
