No longer a Hokie

Michael Bennett

Michael Barnett has decommitted from Virginia Tech. The Dorchester (S.C.) Woodland defensive end spoke with Scout.com about his recruitment, future and more.

"I have decommitted from Virginia Tech," said Michael Barnett. "I've started looking more at life after football and what school can help me as far as sports broadcasting. I'm still interested in Virginia Tech, though."

Yesterday, Barnett received an offer from Alabama. However, he said that was not why he decommitted from the Hokies.

"People thought that I decommitted because Alabama offered, but that's not the case," he said. "I was already looking at other schools as far as broadcasting."

Along with the Virginia Tech and Alabama, Barnett also holds offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Tennessee.

He will possibly take some trips in the near future.

"I'm supposed to be visiting Virginia Tech for spring practice and Florida State," he said. "But I'm not to sure because I'm doing track right now."

Although he has reopened his recruitment, Barnett does a have a list of top schools.

"It's Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Clemson, Florida State and Alabama – in that order," he said.

"I'm just going to take my time now and see what the schools have to offer, though, as far as broadcasting and getting to the next level. I don't have timetable for a decision."
