Tigers looking to snap the streak
WHERE: Clemson, S.C. - Littlejohn Coliseum
WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 18 (7:02 p.m.)
TV: ESPNU (Tom Hart, Cory Alexander)
Brad Brownell isn't ready to push the panic button. After all, the Tigers lost to some pretty good teams.
"We lost to the number one team in the country and the number 15 or 16 team in the country. Then, we lost a game in double-overtime on the road," he said. "It's not like we've played that bad. We've played OK, not good enough to win, so it's not like we're beating our guys up or anything like that. We still have a lot to play for. Just try to get good at the things we need to do to win, individually and as a team.
"I think we're making sure guys are focused on making sure they're doing the things they need to do and playing within the roles that we need them to play, and don't get worried about other things, big picture, just do your job."
Mark Gottfried will bring a Wolfpack squad to town that's led by forward T.J. Warren, who's first on the team in scoring [23.1] and rebounding [7.3].
"I think they're playing really well. Mark's done a good job with them," Brownell said. "T.J. Warren, I think those of us coaches felt like he was going to have a tremendous season in being the go-to guy for N.C. State.
"He's a guy who's unbelievably efficient. He's got a quick release and he's 6-foot-8. He looks to be in a little better shape, physically, this year. He's in great shape. He's a tremendous matchup problem for anybody…He's one of those guys that's thinking score all the time and can make a variety of shots."
Warren is shooting 52 percent from the field and 28 percent from behind the 3-pointline.
"He can make all the shots, he can post you, he can make a 3 [and] he can put it on the ground and isolate you," Brownell said. "If you're not right up on top of him, he's going to get his shot off. He'll get it off when you're on top of him sometimes, because of his quick release, his confidence, so I think he's tremendous player."
Working in the front-court with Warren are Kyle Washington and Jordan Vandenberg.
"They've got good young guys inside, like Washington -- big and long at 6-9 and is really improving. I think he's done some really good things," Brownell said. "Vandenberg is obviously a senior. I think he's having a good, solid year. They've got a 7-footer, so they've got a really big front line."
The starting back-court of Tyler Lewis and Ralston Turner is strong, too. Turner's hit 39 percent of his shots from long-range.
"[He] can really shoot the ball and has provided that spot where Scott Wood was last year, running around screens, knocking down 3s -- deep 3s," Brownell said.
Freshman Cat Barber adds depth off the bench.
"Cat Barber, unbelievable speed out front, break you down [and] do a lot of different things," Brownell said. "Then, Tyler Lewis is just a traditional point guard, but really finds guys, really good passer."
