Get to know the Tigers: Stephone Anthony

Football season is rapidly approaching, so it's time to re-familiarize yourself with some of the guys you'll be cheering on in this fall. Up next in our Get to know the Tigers series is Stephone Anthony.

Name: Stephone Anthony

Position: Middle Linebacker

Number: 42

Height: 6-2

Weight: 245

Hometown: Polkton, N.C.

High School: Anson County High School

2013 Stats: Anthony had a team-high 131 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three quarterback pressures, one interception, five pass breakups and one fumble recovery over 802 snaps in 13 games, all of which he started. He was named third-team All-ACC by the media and the coaches.

2014 Prediction: Year No. 4 at Clemson figures to be as productive, if not more productive than year three. Anthony has appeared in 39 games [1,553 snaps] during his Clemson career, so he's one of the most experienced players on the entire roster. He'll be in the mix for preseason first-team All-ACC honors. With another 100-plus tackle campaign, Anthony could find himself on the first-team at the end of the season.

Recruiting Background: CUTigers was on hand at Anson County High School for Anthony's National Signing Day announcement. Alongside teammate Brandon Ellerbe, a one-time Clemson commitment who signed with UNC, Anthony announced his intent to sign with the Tigers on ESPNU. Anthony, who was a five-star prospect, signed with Clemson over Florida and Virginia Tech. Former Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele played a big role in bringing Anthony to Tigertown.

Venables Says: "We're thrilled that [Anthony and Vic Beasly are] back, as much as, because they stand for what's right. They're great football players, but they love their teammates, great leaders, easy to coach. Anytime you've got that experience back, it's pretty strong. I think they all made good decisions."
