COLLEGE STATION, TX- The Clemson offense committed four turnovers and the defense gave up more than…
Clemson - Texas A&M Notebook
Kelly started the first two games this season, but was rather unproductive as he amassed just 85 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries. He's also lost a fumble.
Coming into this season, Kelly had rushed for 888 yards and 11 touchdowns and was the team's leading rusher in 2002 with 520 yards.
Last year, however, he played in just seven games and started once because Bowden said Kelly was overweight.
Tight end Ben Hall had two receptions in the first half to give him three receptions on the season, which equals his entire output for the 2003 season.
Hall, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior, has often been thought of by many fans as a player that has tons of potential to be another big weapon for the Tigers. However, in Bowden's spread offense, he has been rarely used.
When the Tigers boarded their plane and left town Friday afternoon, the temperature was hovering around 70 degrees. However, when they touched down in Texas, things we're vastly different.
The temperature at kickoff, which was at 6 p.m. Central time, was a brutal 95 degrees. It had gotten as hot as 99.
But that's not the worst part. It was even hotter on the field of play as a thermometer just off the surface was pegged at 122 degrees.
Running back Duane Coleman saw his first action of the year when he entered the game and carried the ball for a one-yard loss late in the first quarter.
He later cost the Tigers 15 key yards in the fourth quarter when he was assessed a personal foul and then was immediately sent to the bench by Bowden.
Coleman sustained a broken foot in early August.
Punter Cole Chason booted the longest punt of his career when he blasted it 52 yards in the third quarter. Earlier, Chason had kicked a 50-yard punt in the second quarter, but it was returned 49 yards by Texas A&M's Erik Mayes.
It was the longest punt return against Clemson since Texas Tech returned one for 59 yards in the Tangerine Bowl in 2002.
