6-foot-2, 185 pound quarterback prospect Michael Wade was ready to commit the moment Clemson offered him.

"I went to camp on Sunday. I thought I did well at camp. Coach Spence told me to call back later in the week," Wade told CUTigers.com on Wednesday. "I was at camp last night when my dad called and talked to him. He told my dad he wanted to offer. Then I called the coaches today. I talked to Coach Blackwell and then I talked to Coach Spence. They offered and I accepted.

"I'm pretty sure I'm going to head down in the next few days to talk with Coach Bowden and Coach Spence again. I am going to look them in the eye and shake their hand and make everything official."

The talented quarterback wanted to get the decision behind him so he could concentrate on his senior season at Riverside. "I really wanted to get the pressure off myself, my family and my team," said Wade. "I want to play the season without that weighing on my mind. I'm pretty excited about it."

According to Wade, he was very impressed with Coach Spence and the two have already built a great relationship. "It definitely feels like home. Coach Spence is great. He knows so much about the quarterback position," said the future Tigers. "Our personalities really match. He is a good Christian man. I like what I see in him. I think he will be a great mentor and tutor. I wouldn't want to spend the next ive years with anyone else."

How firm is Wade's commitment to the Tigers? "It's solid. I am going to Clemson," said Wade.

Although Wade's father also played for the Tigers, Michael made it clear that his father let him make his own decision. "People would think he would have helped me make the big decision and pushed me to Clemson, but he wanted me to go wherever I wanted. He just wanted me to go to the best place for me. Of course he was glad when I made the decision to go to Clemson."

Several other ACC teams had offered the Palmetto standout and the offer list would likely have grown a lot over the next few months if he had not committed to the Tigers. "I also have offers from Duke and Maryland. Maryland just offered last week."

Now that the big decision is behind him, Wade plans to concentrate on helping Riverside High. "I am going to work hard this summer to get ready for the season. I am glad to get this out of my hair. I want to have a good senior season. I hope we do well.

"Clemson is a great place to be. I think I will fit in well there. I've always been a Clemson fan."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding quarterback from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2006.
