Four-star prospect Jamie Cumbie can’t wait for his chance to play in front of the Clemson faithful in Death Valley. CUTigers.com caught up with the Illinois standout after his visit to Tiger Town this weekend.
The 6-6, 255 pound prospect made the long trip from Illinois to Clemson, S.C. to see the Tigers take on Miami for his only official visit of the recruiting process on Saturday.
“It was a great game. It was too bad that they couldn’t come out on top. They just had a few mistakes. But they played a great game,” Cumbie told CUTigers.com Sunday evening. “I came up with my mom, my dad and my little brother. They really enjoyed the game also.”
Like many of the other recruits at Death Valley Saturday, Cumbie was impressed with the atmosphere and especially, the crowd noise. “That place got so loud. When the defense was on the field late in the 4th quarter it was rocking,” said the future Tiger.
The talented athlete also had a chance to talk with many of Clemson's coaches during the visit. “I talked with all of them. They said they are really looking forward to having me there. Coach Hobby really likes my build. He says I can do some good things for their defense,” said Cumbie.
So how does Cumbie feel about the opportunity to play in Death Valley? “It is going to be something else. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. It is going to be a dream come true,” he said.
The four-star prospect is having an outstanding senior season for Morris High School. “We’ve been rolling this year. We are 4-0. This week I had four tackles and two sacks. They ran with five receivers all night so I didn’t get that many tackles. I also had two catches on offense for 54 yards,” Cumbie said.
When asked how firm his commitment is to the Tigers, Cumbie responded, “It’s extremely firm. There is no chance I change mind.”
The prize recruit may make a return trip in November to watch the Tigers. “I really don’t know if I can make it, but I would like to come back for the Florida State game. We will be in the playoffs by then so I’m not sure," he added.
Cumbie was hosted by Nathan "Big Country" Bennett this weekend.
