An in-depth look at Clemson verbal commitment Chris Hairston
Hairston Focused on Workout Plan
In a recent interview with CUTigers.com, Hairston said, "It was a big relief. I couldn't wait to sign and get everything behind me. It was just a technicality since I knew I was coming to Clemson, but it is nice to have it behind me."
The Shrine Bowl standout plans to report to Clemson "lean" this summer. That is, if you conisider "lean" to be under 300 pounds. "I want to go down lean. They want me to come in around 270 or 275 so I can gain weight the right way.
"I got my workout plan (from Clemson) already. I have started working on that. I want to work hard before I get there."
Hairston also said that former defensive line coach Marion Hobby, his recruiter to Clemson, called him once he decided to leave Tiger Town for the National Football League.
"Coach Hobby called me the night before it was announced that he was leaving," Hairston said. "He talked with me and my mother. It is a great opportunity for him. That is what everybody coaches for, to get an opportunity to coach in the NFL. Coach Scott is going to keep in touch with me now."
Like many of Clemson's 2006 signees, Hairston is already planning to head to Clemson for the Orange & White game on April 8. "I want to get down for the spring game," he said. "I am going to try to come down and stay for the weekend."
Hairston will also be ready to enroll at Clemson this summer. "That is the plan," he said. "I will be heading down for the second summer session. I want to get acclimated with everything."
What is Hairston looking forward to the most about starting his Clemson career? "I can't wait to play in my first game," he responded. "I can't wait to run down the hill for the first time with the team. I can't wait to be a part of the atmosphere like it was at the Florida State game."
Finally, Hairston said that Clemson is currently looking at one of his teammates for the class of 2007. "Yeah they are looking at one of our defensive tackles, Ed Brown. I always talk to him about Clemson. I want him to come down to Clemson if he gets an offer."
