76ers Sign Greg Buckner

Former Clemson star Greg Buckner signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. The former 2nd round draft pick averaged 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 44 games with the Mavericks last season.

Buckner, who has spent all three of his NBA seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, got an $18 million, six-year deal that starts at $2.4 million this season.

"I don't have a best position," Buckner said. "I just think I'm a basketball player. "I like to guard the best payers on the wing. My game has been to strictly play defense and rebound, do the scrappy things."

Buckner played a key role as a defensive specialist for the Mavericks over the course of the last 3 seasons, and now he'll transistion back to the East Coast to be utilized in the same way with the 76ers.

You might remember Buckner helping lead a resurgence in Clemson basketball back when he led the Tigers to the Sweet 16 in the 1997 NCAA Tournament. He never missed a start at Clemson, breaking a record held by Clemson great Tree Rollins in 1998.
