Top Upstate Junior Sets Clemson Visit

One of the top rising juniors in South Carolina plans to visit Death Valley soon to watch the Tigers take on North Carolina. CUTigers.com recently spoke with the blue-chip defensive tackle and we've got the latest in this recruiting update.

DT Sam Hammond Profile

One of the top prospects in South Carolina for the class of 2008 is Union defensive lineman Sam Hammond.

Hammond, who is already drawing massive interest from schools across the south, says he's already been to Knoxville, Tenn. twice this year.

"I have been to Tennessee for their first two games. I went to the Air force and California games. I have been up there to see Eric Young," Hammond told CUTigers.com in a recent interview.

The Union standout is hearing from three schools at this point. "I don't have any offers yet," he said. "But I am hearing from a lot from Clemson, Notre Dame and Tennessee."

The Tigers are showing strong interest and Hammond feels like an offer could come this fall.

"I am getting a lot of letters from Clemson," he said. "I feel like they might be close to offering, but I'm not sure."

When asked if he has any early favorites, Hammond responded, "Not really. I just want to wait and see who offers."

The rising junior plans to be in Death Valley later in September.

"I am probably going to go to their next home game," he said. "I will probably go up for the North Carolina game."

Which team is recruiting Hammond the hardest at this time? "They are all recruiting me about the same," replied Hammond.
