Adams Named Walter Camp All-American

Clemson senior Gaines Adams has been named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation.

It marks the second consecutive year that Clemson has had a first-team Walter Camp All-American as Tye Hill was named last year. Adams, a defensive end from Greenwood, SC, was one of two ACC players named to the first-team. He was joined by Calvin Johnson, the wide receiver from Georgia Tech.

Adams leads the ACC in quarterback sacks with 10.5, ninth in the nation. He had 56 tackles, including 15.5 tackles for loss to lead the Tiger defense to a #12 ranking in total defense and a #15 ranking in scoring defense. His top play of the year was a 66-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Wake Forest, a play that was named the Pontiac Game Changing Play of the Week for the weekend of October 7.

Adams was named a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award and was a finalist for the Nagurski Award and the Hendricks Award.

This is the fifth All-America team that Adams has made so far this year. Last week, Adams was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and Rivals.com. He was also named a first-team All-American by SI.com on Thursday and will be named to the Football Writers Association on Friday. He was an automatic selection by his honor as a finalist for the Nagurski Award.
