Top Upstate Junior Drawing Interest
DL Sam Hammond Profile Sam Hammond, a 6-4, 290 pound defensive tackle prospect out of Union High School, is already drawing early attention from several top programs around the southeast. "I don't have any new offers," he said. "It is just Clemson right now. But I am hearing from Florida State, Notre Dame, North Carolina and North Carolina State." When asked if he has a leader, Hammond responded, "Clemson is still my main one. I'm not in a hurry to make a decision yet ... I'll probably wait until the school year starts next year. The Clemson staff keeps in regular touch with the Palmetto standout. "I hear from them a lot," he said. "They just tell me more about the school and the football program. They are trying to get me to come to camp over the summer." Although the football season has only been over for a few months, Hammond is working hard to prepare for next year. "I have been lifting weights and running," he said. "I have also been hitting the books. I might do track this spring. I'm not sure yet." The Union standout has not set any camp plans yet. "I don't know where I am going to go this summer yet," added Hammond. Clemson has already secured the verbal commitment from the state's top defensive lineman for the class of 2008 in Bamberg-Ehrhardt's Daquan Bowers. CUTigers.com will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding defensive tackle from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2008.
