CUTigers.com presents an updated list of the top 20 prospects in South Carolina for the class of 2009.

RANK PLAYER POSITION CITY WT/HT COMMIT
1 Sam Montgomery DE Greenwood 6-5/240
NOTES: Montgomery has emerged as the state's top player and has the offer sheet to prove it. Clemson is in good shape, but Montgomery has said on more than one occasion he wants to visit several out of state schools including LSU, Florida and Southern California. Montgomery has also been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Game next January. He recorded 65 tackles and 15 sacks last season. His main recruiter to Clemson is assistant coach Ron West.

2 Chris Bonds DE Richland Northeast 6-4/275
NOTES: Bonds is checking out all of his options when it comes to recruiting, but Clemson will not be one. Alabama, Southern California, Michigan and South Carolina are his current top schools. Tore his ACL during his junior season but should make a full recovery.

3 J.K. Jay OT Christ Church 6-7/275 CU
NOTES: Jay is one of the top linemen in the south and has been committed to Clemson since the spring game in 2007. He's also been one of the Tigers' top recruiters, calling weekly on some of the top prospects on the board, including the top two safeties in the nation in Craig Loston and Devonte Holloman. Jay will be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game next January.

4 Damario Jeffrey LB Columbia 6-4/195
NOTES: Jeffrey could be the state's top player before it's all said and done. A powerful linebacker prospect (currently No. 4 WLB in the nation), he's being pursued by a handful of traditional powers. Clemson is squarely in the mix and is pursuing at fullspeed behind the efforts of defensive line coach Chris Rumph. South Carolina and Alabama are also in hot pursuit at the present moment.

5 Stephon Gilmore WR South Pointe 6-1/175
NOTES: Currently rated the No. 31 wide receiver in the nation, Gilmore is likely a cornerback at the next level. The Tigers are in good shape here but will be challenged by South Carolina and Tennessee. Also, look for Gilmore to take several additional out-of-state trips during the recruiting process if he does not commit early. Played quarterback last year and put up over 2,000 yards in total offense. Gilmore will be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game next January. Clemson recruiting coordinator Billy Napier is leading the way for the Tigers.

6 Alshon Jeffrey WR Calhoun County 6-4/200
NOTES: Jeffrey is the top offensive skill player in the state this year and also is a standout basketball player. South Carolina, Southern California, Alabama and Clemson are all in the mix for his services after a junior season that saw him haul in 32 passes for over 900 yards and 14 touchdowns. Clemson's Chris Rumph is recruiting for the Tigers.

7 Quinten Washington OG Timberland 6-4/322
NOTES: Clemson and South Carolina are battling it out for the Palmetto state's top interior lineman. Clemson linebackers coach David Blackwell is recruiting here. N.C. State, Tennessee, Maryland and Alabama have also offered. Washington has claimed no favorites and is being recruited to Tigertown by David Blackwell.

8 Ricco Sanders WR Duncan Byrnes 6-0/160
NOTES: Sanders has several big offers including both Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Florida State after catching 58 passes for over 900 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. The Tigers, led by his main recruiter Billy Napier, are the team to beat here.

9 Duane Chisolm DE Beaufort 6-2/250
NOTES: Recorded over 100 tackles and 15 sacks last season. South Carolina holds the early edge over N.C. State, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Clemson has yet to move in with a formal offer as of early April with assistant coach Ron West recruiting.

10 Kwame Geathers OT Carvers Bay 6-5/320
NOTES: South Carolina, Georgia and several other schools will battle it out for Geathers' services. Clemson will likely not be a factor here.
