The Clemson Tigers picked up their fifth verbal commitment for the class of 2009 earlier today when Eric Fields gave his pledge to the Clemson coaching staff.

He chose the Tigers over Florida State and Alabama.

"I called coach Napier tonight and told him I wanted to commit to Clemson," he told CUTigers.com. "He was real excited. He talked to me about what I need to do to make sure I get to Clemson."

Why did he decide to end his recruitment now?

"Because it just feels like home," Fields said. "Plus my mom really liked it there also.

"And the main thing is I didn't want to wait too long. They have other players they have offered that could commit as well so I decided to go ahead and do it."

How firm is Fields' commitment?

According to him, he's pretty much firm.

"I am almost 100 percent," he said. "I still have a little doubt but I am almost 100 percent. I'm probably not going to take any other visits or anything."

Fields is currently rated as the No. 19 MLB prospect in the nation by Scout.com and No. 237 regardless of position.

He will debut as a 4-star prospect later this summer.

Fields is also teammates with Abry Jones, another future four-star prospect who committed to Georgia last weekend. The two visited Clemson last month for spring practice.
