Vincent Done at Clemson

CUTigers.com has confirmed linebacker Cortney Vincent is done playing football at Clemson.
Vincent, who had one year of eligibility with the team, has been dismissed due to an unspecified violation of team policy.
Tommy Bowden informed his team of the decision in a team meeting earlier today.
"I had suspended Cortney Vincent for spring practice for a violation of team rules," Bowden said in a released statement. "We outlined some goals for Cortney this spring. While he would have been academically eligible to compete this year, he did not meet these goals during the spring semester."
Vincent did started 12 games in 2007 and was sixth on the team in tackles with 68, including seven for loss and two sacks.
If he would have been re-instated for the 2008 season, he would have been expected to compete with redshirt freshman Brandon Maye for the starting MIKE linebacker spot.
As it stands now, Maye will likely be grouped with the first team for the start of preseason camp in August.
Clemson is also waiting to hear about another linebacker, Antonio Clay, who wasn't enrolled in school this spring for personal reasons.
Bowden told CUTigers.com last week it is too early to tell whether or not Clay could return.
“I think where it’s at right now is the medical people are making an evaluation for what exactly is going to be best for him,” Bowden said. “Is it best for him to get away from his best support system and medical help down there (at his home in Georgia) where he’s tried twice and really hasn’t had the success that you’d hope he’d have? It’s really in the medical people’s hands more so than the NCAA’s hands, I think.
“There’s really no timeframe because those people really don’t adhere to NCAA timeframes. They’re more interested in him and I think that’s why it’s kind of been a slow process. … There is the possibility he could redshirt, then the NCAA might get involved because he’s been out of school and him being in his fourth year, he’s got to be at 80 percent (of his work toward his major completed).”
