The Clemson Tigers picked up another verbal commitment for the class of 2009 Wednesday evening when this newcomer on the recruiting scene gave his pledge to linebackers coach David Blackwell and wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney.

Lake View linebacker Quandon Christian has committed to the Clemson Tigers, CUTigers.com has confirmed.

Christian, a 6-3, 205 pound prospect who runs a 4.55 40-yard dash, gave his commitment to linebackers coach David Blackwell and wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney earlier Wednesday at the second session of Tommy Bowden's annual football camp.

"After practice Coach Blackwell came up and asked me if I would commit to Clemson if they offered and I told them yes I would. And I committed right after that," he told CUTigers.com.

So why did he decide to commit to Clemson and why do it now?

"Well it was between Clemson and South Carolina. I like the coaching staff and I really like the players and the atmosphere before the games and I like how they are strict on academics," he said.

Christian was at South Carolina's camp Tuesday before arriving in Clemson earlier today.

As a junior he recorded 82 total tackles, including nine sacks.

Christian is the ninth verbal commitment for Clemson in the 2009 recruiting class, and the second linebacker.

The Tigers have also secured the verbal commitment of the nation's No. 7 middle linebacker, Georgia native Eric Fields.

Clemson is expected to sign at least three linebackers in the 2009 recruiting class.

The last time Clemson signed a player from Lake View, it was also a linebacker and a player that was largely under the radar in RB/LB Anthony Waters.

Waters was drafted five years later in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.

When asked about the strength of his commitment, Christian told CUTigers.com, "It's firm. I'll be going to Clemson."
