Clemson's Next Commitment?

As this three-star standout gets set for his official visit to Clemson University this weekend, there stands a good chance a verbal commitment could be in the works. Who is he and where does he project to play at the next level? The answers just might surprise you.

Gadsden City (Ala.) standout Darrell Smith will take an official visit to Clemson over the weekend.

"I will be coming up with my mom and dad. I want to see how the coaches are. I want to see if I like it there and if I feel comfortable," Smith told CUTigers.com Thursday evening.

"I have camped there the last two summers so I know about Clemson already. I came up with Kendall and Dre this summer."

Smith, who does not yet hold a scholarship offer from the Tigers, is expecting that to change this weekend.

"I think they are [going to offer], but I am not sure yet," replied Smith.

This will be the second official visit this week for the rising star, who saw his interest pickup after an impressive week at the Alabama All-star game.

"I am actually just leaving Troy now. I came down for an official visit on Wednesday. It went good. I like it down here," he said.

Which teams have offered the three-star standout so far?

"Troy has offered," he said. "I also have offers from Middle Tennessee, UAB and Jacksonville."

The talented athlete plays both ways for Gadsden City.

"Clemson wants me as a defensive end. I am currently 6-3, 235. I also played tight end, but they want me on defense," said Smith.

The Tigers will likely add another commitment this weekend if they do offer.

"If they offer I think I would commit, yes sir," said Smith.

Clemson secondary coach Charlie Harbison is recruiting the Alabama standout for the Tigers. "I like coach Harbison. He is a real nice coach. He is a good Christian man," said Smith.

Clemson is also hoping to land his 4-star teammate Kendall Kelly. Where does Kendall plan to sign on national signing day?

"I don't know for real. If I commit to Clemson, I will try to get him to join me," said Smith.

Smith is currently ranked as the No. 59 tight end in the nation according to Scout.com.
