CUTigers announced today Hale McGranahan will join its staff on a fulltime basis.
McGranahan comes to CUTigers from The Greer Citizen where he has worked as a general assignments reporter for the past two years. During his time there he worked covering numerous high school football and basketball games, both in print and photography.
He has also worked as a freelance reporter covering various sports (football, basketball, golf) for the Rock Hill Herald and The Greenville News during that time.
McGranahan will focus his efforts at CUTigers.com on recruiting and football coverage, beginning with his first full day on the job August 1.
He will also contribute to CUTigers The Magazine on a regular basis as well.
"We are thrilled to welcome Hale to our staff," CUTigers.com publisher Roy Philpott said. "We talked to numerous writers who were interested in joining our team over the last two months but Hale's energy and overall enthusiasm for recruiting was something that was too hard to ignore."
McGranahan, 24, and a graduate of Winthrop University has a background in history and journalism and is no stranger to the upstate South Carolina area. He grew up in Greenville, attending high school at Eastside before graduating from Winthrop in Rock Hill and has covered hundreds of high school games over the years.
He also the son of long time sports writer Ed McGranahan, who works for the Greenville News.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to join CUTigers on a fulltime basis," he said. "I've always found recruiting fascinating and now to be covering it on a daily basis will be a lot of fun for me.
"I always say I have three sports I like to follow: football, basketball and baseball. No. 1 depends on the season."
McGranahan will officially serve as the recruiting editor for CUTigers, but he will also assist in practice reports and game coverage this coming football season.
He joins CUTigers publisher Roy Philpott as the second fulltime writer at CUTigers.
“It was important for us to hire someone who already had a solid working knowledge of high schools in South Carolina, in addition to the recruiting process and Hale certainly has that on both fronts,” Philpott said. “He will be a great addition for our subscribers.”
McGranahan is also a two-year member of the South Carolina Press Association and two year member of the Greer Touchdown Club.
In addition to Philpott and McGranahan, videographer/radio host Don Munson, columnist/radio host Dan Scott and recruiting enthusiast Travis Crook will also continue to provide their insight and analysis throughout the upcoming football season for CUTigers.
One of the largest team-specific sites on the internet today, CUTigers.com and CUTigers The Magazine are part of the Scout.com network, which is owned by Fox Sports.
