Former Clemson All-American Lucas Glover will be paired with former Georgia Tech All-American Stewart Cink in Thursday’s Foursomes that open competition in the 2009 President’s Cup.
The competition will feature the International team against the United States team at Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco.
This is the eighth President’s Cup competition. which dates to 1994. It will be the second time Glover has been named to the President’s Cup team, the second time he has been a Captain’s pick. Glover helped the United States to victory in 2007, a team that was captained by Jack Nicklaus.
This year’s US captain is former Master’s Champion Fred Couples. Couples has paired Glover and Cink in the first round of Foursomes and they will play Vijay Singh and Robert Allenby in a match that will start at 3:34 PM Eastern time.
Glover has a 2-3 overall record in the President’s Cup, but is 2-0 in foursomes competition. Cink is 8-4-1 overall in the President’s Cup, but is 4-1 in foursomes play. Glover and Cink won back to back Major Championships this past summer as Glover won the US Open in June and Cink won the British Open in July.
So far this year, Glover has won $3,692,580, ninth best on the PGA Tour and the most money ever for a former Clemson golfer. He is first on the PGA Tour in total birdies with 365. He won the US Open and was fifth at the PGA Championship, two of the top three finishes by former Clemson golfers in Major championship play. He finished 10th at the Tour Championship two weeks ago.
