One of the top linebackers in the southeast for the class of 2011 was on hand Saturday for Clemson's win over Florida State.
Tennessee commitment
A.J. Johnson
was in Death Valley on Saturday to see Clemson knock off Florida State 40-24.
“My coach told me that Clemson still wants me to come down there to the games and stuff,” he said. “They’re still recruiting me hard and I just went down to enjoy the game.”
Johnson said that he enjoyed being a part of the game in person, as he sat from the stands in the West End Zone. He was joined by his position coach (outside linebacker) from Gainesville HS (GA)--Dave McConnell. Also joining Johnson was McConnell’s wife and their two sons, who are also his teammates.
This season, Johnson has gone to games at Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Georgia.
“I know I’ll probably will take some more trips to games this season, but I’m not sure where exactly,” he said.
Though Johnson is solid with his commitment to Tennessee, he recently told CUTigers that he plans to still go through the recruitment process with other schools.
“I’m still going to take my visits, but most likely, I’ll stay at Tennessee,” he said.
Johnson committed to the Volunteers because “it just felt right.”
“It felt like the place that I wanted to play,” he said.
The Clemson experience has left an impression on Johnson though.
“It’s a nice place. Everybody is family-like down there, the coaches are real cool, they talk to you a lot,” he said.
