Tigers offer DT
Defensive tackle Josh Watson enrolled at Hargrave Military Academy this fall hoping to pick some Division I offers. On a winless Dickinson HS team in Wilmington, D.E., Watson finished high school fully qualified with a pair of Division II offers. He now sports several FCS offers, including one from Clemson.
"I trained really hard over the summertime and it's really paid off…I didn't need the SAT score or the GPA," he said. Watson told CUTigers that he doesn't know a whole lot about Clemson, but has heard good things from the people he's talked to about Tigertown.
"I'm looking forward to the visit to confirm everything," he said.
Clemson offensive tackle and tight end coach Danny Pearman is serving as his main recruiter.
"He tells me that if I want to play football, then this is where I want to come because the fans are crazy and South Carolina is a football state," Watson said.
"I know the coaches are good and they're straight shooters."
Watson is planning to take four official visits in the upcoming weeks.
This weekend, he'll head to Boston College with Hargrave offensive tackle Laurence Gibson. Watson will then to Duke on December 4 and North Carolina on December 18. On December 11, he and Gibson will stop by Tigertown.
Watson's other offers include Virginia, Duke, Memphis, Connecticut, North Carolina, Syracuse and Florida State.
"I want to see the environment and the players--most likely how I feel when I am going around to each of the schools, if I am feeling a certain vibe," he said. "I want to be sure I'm picking a school that I know I'll be having fun at four years from now."
At 6-5, 260, Watson said some schools are also recruiting him as a defensive end. Clemson is recruiting him to play tackle.
